The Variable Refrigerant Flow, or “VRF,” segment of the HVAC equipment market is the fastest growing segment in the state. This is being driven by some major disruptive forces happening in commercial construction, including: rapid population growth that is driving buildings toward more mixed-use construction; more vertical multi-story construction; and increased focus on effective use of space (reductions in mechanical non-rentable space). Additionally, the 2014 adoption of the updated ASHRAE 90.1 energy code increases minimum efficiency standards for many building types. This increase affects compliance with green building initiatives like LEED and Energy Star.
VRF systems offer unique solutions to the changing construction requirements. This presentation will discuss how and why this 30-year-old technology is now catching fire in the U.S. HVAC market. Daikin, the global leader in VRF systems recently acquired Houston-based Goodman Manufacturing and opened a new VRF manufacturing center in Houston to meet the demands of this market segment.
