The Ivy Lofts in Houston, TX will open in 2019, and will introduce the first micro-condominium living spaces to Texas. These sustainable, responsible micro-dwellings aim to revolutionize city living with 24 stories of condos that fit a kitchen, living room and bedroom in as little as 350 square feet.

To utilize all the space in the building, owners elected to install an HVAC system that required no equipment to be put on the roof, and chose DXS as basis of design to provide Daikin mini splits for each condo, and condensing units that could be placed on the patio without taking away from the architectural aesthetic. DXS provided 302 Daikin 15 series mini splits, as well as a variety of multi splits for the remaining 248 lofts in the facility. The Daikin equipment helped the facility achieve its desired energy efficiency while accommodating the zoning requirements and allowing for temperature control in every loft.

Multi-Family Key Considerations

In Europe and Asia, where cities are densely populated and high-rise apartment buildings are the norm, VRF air conditioning systems represent 50 percent of the multi-family market. As development space in North American urban areas becomes more valuable and as consumers here become more energy efficiency-minded, VRF technology is now the preferred choice of many multi-family building developers.

VRF systems offer architects and engineers with a competitive alternative to chilled water and split systems. DXS partners with developers who are attracted to VRF’s energy efficiency, ease of maintenance and its long life. And we work with engineers to customize our products, such as designing a system that provides both high-efficiency heat and air conditioning.
