The International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC) has recently opened a new location in downtown Toronto. The campus underwent a a comprehensive interior renovation, which included the installation of a highly efficient, modern heating and cooling system designed to provide superior comfort and air quality for students, staff, and visitors alike.
Occupying the first four floors of the building, ILAC’s new space features offices, classrooms, and student amenities. To maintain optimal climate control across these varied spaces, water-cooled Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems and slim, low-profile ducted units were installed. These advanced units not only offer both heating and cooling but also efficiently recirculate air, ensuring an ideal learning environment year-round. Their compact design integrates seamlessly into the building’s aesthetics without compromising on performance.
A key feature of the system is the addition of two rooftop Oxygen8 energy recovery ventilators (ERVs), which play a crucial role in maintaining indoor air quality. These ERVs are paired with VRF-compatible direct expansion (DX) heating and cooling coils, ensuring a consistent supply of tempered fresh air throughout the building. The energy recovery technology captures heat from the outgoing air and uses it to pre-condition the incoming fresh air, significantly reducing the building’s energy consumption while enhancing occupant comfort.
DXS supplied the following equipment:
